Death to Tanita

I just bought a Tanita scale with a body fat estimator function.

The good news is that it weighs me at 3.2 pounds less than my old standby scale.

The very, very bad news is that it seems to think I have a whopping 11.3% more body fat than the tape measure method. Obviously Tanita is cruelly wrong.

Ok, so you do not recommend this product? Or is it just painfully accurate?

I am looking for a body fat scale myself.

LOL! I think it's a fine product, especially on sale (I got this on sale on Amazon.com, it's probably an older model). I just don't like what it's telling me. It's probably right, dammit.

Ooooh I hate scales they are inherently evil instruments of torture! Banish it from my sight forever! (how do you make a scared face smiley?)

Really? I always wondered about the accuracy of these things.

Hmmm, I am sceptical now.

Does it have the athlete's mode? I have an older one without an athletes mode and my body fat is through the roof. Okay, I do have some to lose but not THAT much...

I have a Tanita and I think it lies. But I'm looking at it from the point of consistency not actual numbers (i.e. change in % important not actual numbers).

Of course that'd be more helpful if that percent was changing.

right.

My Dave Barry calendar page for yesterday said this:
"I decided, what the heck, I'll just step on this thing and...FWEEP, FWEEP, FWEEP, FWEEP. When I saw the number on the scale, I was forced to face a shocking, but unmistakable, fact: The scale was defective."

I thought it was fitting! And those things lie!! I've gone up and down 5% BF in about two hours.
