The Columbia Swim

This is what is facing me in 4 1/2 weeks at the Columbia Triathlon!!

I told you it was a huge transition area! But I guess if I make it past the swim leg, everything else should be relatively easy, right?

Uh, yeah. Looks like if you can avoid getting eaten by the giant sea monster, you're home free!

I guess the swim really would be the hardest part of this tri. Try to keep someone between you and the monster, okay.

ugh.

Centennial Lake Monster.

"Centy".

I'd be more worried about the monster. :p

Transition at Danskin is similarly huge. I'm worried about what an Ironman will be like, but at least it'll be split between men and women.

But yeah, I would mention the monster to the race director. He might detract from the experience. :p

Pshaw, my transition at Danskin was equally a big, and a terrible rocky, dusty road. OUCH!

(You're going to be swimming to fast for that monster to get ya, anyway).

geez....scary.

But few transitions compare to the Danskin in Seattle (which is the largest Danskin race in the country and also the one that sells out the fastest even though it is later in the year than most) or to the Chicago Accencture triathlon.

At the Seattle Danskin, 3500 women routinely compete (compare that to the less than 2000 at the Columbia tri), and even that is no comparison to the Chicago race which boasts around 7500 athletes (men & women).

However, neither of those races, at least insofar as I am aware, has a sea monster as part of the incentive to swim faster. Spooky!
