Cherry Blossom Ten Miler Race Report

I just got back from the Cherry Blossom Ten Miler. PERFECT weather, cherry blossoms were at their peak, women's WORLD RECORD was set there today (54-something?? I don't know by whom, I was, uh, well before the halfway point when she finished).

I finished in my 2nd or 3rd fastest time for ten miles, I think (1:56:51 by my watch), but I don't recommend trying to run a 10-miler after restricting calories for a week. Good thing it wasn't a big race for me, just a local fun one. The course was very crowded (10,000 runners) and I just tried to go with the flow and stay relaxed. I felt great until mile 6 or so and then had a major bonk. Then I just kept jogging along and thinking to myself, "See? I can keep jogging even if I bonk. Just slower. MUCH slower."

The best part of the day was seeing Keri, Holly (looking happy and energetic!), and especially Jeanne - congratulations on challenging yourself by taking on and FINISHING your first ten miler!

Great job on hanging in there with your race. I like how you turned dealing with the bonk into a challenge to which you ROSE, instead of just a negative aspect.

Great shot of you and your buds!

I also really enjoyed the pics of your girls (especially on and near the picnic bench - they're cute little bundles of energy).

Congratulations. I've always wanted to do the CB 10 miler. It looks so beautiful! I'm coming to DC on 4/29 but I think the blossoms will be gone by then. I'll just have to settle for running the National Mall, one of my favorite places to run.
