The Exception

Go Chad! Amazing, multiple world-record holder, now gold medalist, and he's only been speedskating four years? Just goes to show what a little training will get you! And oh yeah, there are those FIFTY world championships in inline skating, too. . . .

I saw it. Couldn't tear myself away from the T.V. to go to my race. He was great!

Hedrick was IT as far as inline speed goes, and he will be for a long time to come. Until about three weeks ago, my son had a poster of him on his wall doing that double-push -- we got it at a speedskating meet held at his dad's rink about four years ago, before he switched to ice. We never saw him skate in person, since he did mostly outdoor by the time we came into the sport, but he is legendary in inline speed circles and at Nationals.

It's great he's getting the recognition he deserves after so many years -- it's just a shame he had to switch to compete in the Olympics because inline speed wasn't considered a medal-worthy sport. ((off the soapbox now))
