I am not a dumbass!

"I am not a dumbass! I am a human being!"

But I'm feeling a lot like a dumbass right now.

Item #1. My internet connection was down all afternoon. I tried everything to fix it. I sat on hold for 25 minutes, waiting for a technician to tell me a tree fell on the lines or something. Instead, he tells me to turn off my wireless router and turn it back on. Problem solved, I was back online. It's a good thing that the webcam wasn't on so he couldn't see how red my face was.

Item #2. Those damn CO2 cartridges. I took a closer look at them today. As it turns out, I was attempting to use non-threaded cartridges with a system that uses threaded cartridges. I've been carrying these around for MONTHS thinking they would get me out of an emergency flat on the road. As it was, they never ever ever would have worked. Ever. It was good I learned it when I did. Or maybe I'm just doing something WAY wrong and these are still the correct ones. I have no freakin' clue. I see where it's supposed to take both kinds, but it sure ain't workin' for me.

There's something to learn every day.

You're brilliant compared to me. My net went down, I called Comcast and he had to explain patiently how to unplug one cord from the modem, count to ten, and plug it back in to the same place I just removed it from.

The counting to ten I handled fairly well but you should have seen me trying to get that plug back where it belonged.

And then it turned out to be Comcast after all.

But I learned something. Unplug modem first, then call Comcast.

Push. I avoid the word bush whenever possible.

Let's see.... on vacation last year, my wifi wouldn't work. I was on hold and transfered for about 40 minutes before someone told me I had to push the wifi button on my laptop to turn it on.

As for the CO2, people come into the bike shop everyday and try to buy the wrong one. I always point out there are 2 diff kinds and they are in awe.

In other words, you're human :)

I once went 3 days without internet only to discover my power strip had been turned off. The cable modem does not work without electricity - duh!!!!

Welcome to the human club.

I JUST learned how to change a flat LAST WEEKEND--and I'm still not very good at it! Agh! I really need to practice....it's just a matter of time before Murphy's Law comes true.

Hey, I thought I was the only dumbass around here. I wouldn't even know where to begin trying to fix my internet connection....

We all have those humbling days. The Co2 mistake is too funny. I thought you were part of Jeff Gordon's pit crew!

money saver tip for CO2 cartridges:

purchase the CO2 refills in the paintball section of your local sports store. they are the same at a fraction of the cost. i picked up a box of 40 for about $20. And yes, I do flat that much.

Hmm, never thought of that! I went to the manufacturer website at http://www.genuineinnovations.com and they have all kinds of applications I never considered. Flintlocks. Stuff like that.

I'll be honest: I'm not sure to this day that I could change a flat if I needed to do so. i wasn't sure when I had regular tires, and now that I have tubulars, I'm doubly not sure.

Misty, Misty, Misty. Time for you to take a bike maintenance course! It doesn't keep you from breaking down, but it does keep you from being worried about it, or thrown for a loop if it happens!! :-)
