Saturday swim

What's everybody up to today? Sure seems quiet out there!

I went to the Y in Easton and did 2 miles on the dreadmill so I could get in my lousy minimum 10 per week. Nothing hurt, which is good, but I sure didn't feel peppy after my tiring ride against the wind yesterday.

Then I got in the pool. It felt so GREAT swimming last Monday - now today it felt slow and kludgy again. I lost that sweet stroke I had 5 days ago. I'll get it back some day, but it may take months! Maybe years! Now I know what it's like when people lose their golf stroke!

Fastest 500 yards was 13:15 (2:39 per 100 yards), at a relaxed pace with bilateral breathing. I've done slightly faster than that in a pool triathlon (12:32), but I think that wouldn't be very difficult to equal now if I were pushing the pace, even on a swim day when I didn't feel very comfortable. That's progress!

There's a special "adults only" locker room (with a big sign posted prominently at eye level on the locker room entry door) that I always use there (since I don't bring my girls to the Y yet). Naturally, half the times I've been there some mom has brought her yappy little kid in there. That's right, lady, the rules apply to everyone in the universe except for YOUR precious little darling. I didn't confront the lady in front of her kid, but I was close to doing it. I'll bet she takes 11 items in the 10 Item Limit grocery line, too.

Half marathon tomorrow, on my one year blogversary, with a 7:30 AM starting time, so it will be an early wake-up call. It will be interesting to see how fast I can do it with no taper (and no specific training for it, as usual). It's a pretty fast course, with some hills at the beginning and a big long one right at the middle, but the rest on a flat rail-trail. Under 2:37:50 would be a PR, under 2:39:54 would be a course record for me.

Swim clinic (rescheduled from snow date last month) is next weekend!

Boy have you touched on a subject that is my pet peeve! The sign at our gym allows children of the opposite sex up through age 4 in the locker room. I don't know about anyone else, but as a teacher, I feel pretty awkward about walking around topless (and occasionally bottomless) in front of 4-year-old boys.
Good luck on your run tomorrow!

Good luck on the half tomorrow.

God, I know what you mean about the swimming. Some days I feel like a shark and other days I'm swimming through molasses. Practice, practice, practice, what else can we do???

In addition to the "NO CHILDREN ALLOWED" rule, our Y has a whole host of other rules that apply "to everyone else" Don't wear your street shoes on the equipment comes to mind (because I personally love trudging through someone else's mud and scum). We also have a NO CELL PHONE CALLS in the fitness area, which is the most annoying when ignored! Have a great run tomorrow!

Not sure what time zone you are in but I'm pretty sure you've already started your race. Hope you had a blast and finished smiling.

Been a busy weekend up here, but none of us using "completerunning.com" can post. Site is down, weird.
