Don't you hate it when people write on their blogs a post about how something in their life is suddenly terrible, awful, and horrible - and you want to leave a properly sympathetic and supportive comment - but they're so vague about any pertinent details that you have no earthly idea whether their best friend was murdered, their cat threw up a mouse, they got a $900 phone bill they can't pay, or they have a really nasty hangnail?

sorry. mine was a hangnail.
i'll be more specific next time.
out.
LOL! Hope it's all better by now!!!
AT LEAST IT WASN'T THE CAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, I've run into that a few times. That's a playground tactic for attention.
Posts like that actually say a lot without saying much at all.
oops...that was my cat...
You mean like this post?!?! God, I hope I wasn't the offender! :) I need details!
No problem here (at least not that a few months of steady dieting wouldn't fix)!! :-)
ummm...sorry for going against the grain but here's what I think:
People seek support and attention when they're in need of it but the problem is that some people are (for various reasons) insecure with sharing every detail of their problems on the WWW. I'm generally not one of those people. ;-)
my two cents. :)
Yeah, I think I'm guilty of it too.
Sometimes I just need to vent, but don't feel like telling everything.
yeah, its terrible when people use their OWN blog to let out some feelings they have about a sad event in their lives because maybe they NEED to get some emotion out.
and then they have the audacity to not tell perfect strangers and people who, like you, obviously don't ACTUALLY care at all about whats going on...... specific details.
man. the nerve.
Woo, a.maria, got a little axe to grind there? Maybe you missed the point. I would LIKE to respond to people sympathetically, but it's kind of hard to do when they don't provide the least little clue of what they're talking about. And if they don't want anyone to know anything about it, why the heck are they posting it for the world to see on a blog?
no, actually, i dont have an axe to grind, but i do think its unfortunate that you're griping about someone else just because its their time of need and they haven't given you all the gory details of whatever is going on in their life.
your curiosity and frustration at not getting enough information doesn't really fit well with "wanting to leave a properly sympathetic and supportive comment"
bottom line, you dont need details to be supportive.
I suppose, but it never sounds very supportive to me when people make vague feel-good comments when they have no clue what I'm talking about.
But . . . HAVE A NICE DAY a.maria!!!
okay... i'm trading the two twinkies vs the celery stick fight on my blog for the nancytoby vs amarie fight here.
my money is on you, nanc.
i think it's perfectly acceptable for you to lament that people don't get too detailed about their blog... ON YOUR BLOG. that's what its for. your own opinions.
as you know, i will complain about any and all matter of inconveniences on my blog... be it enemas or cat piss. nothing is off limits.
and, despite what amarie may say, it sounds to me like she does have an axe to grind. which is fine.
just don't make an axe of yourself.
later.
Nope. Doesn't bother me.
I usually don't say much of ANYTHING on my blog. I just do pics...
Sometimes its damned if you do, damned if you don't. Share too much hurt peoples feelings, share too little, piss people off. Oh well.
Also I think it depends on how anonymous each person's blog is. They may feel more open to share all the details of their lives. Some people are just more open in general than others.
Sure. There are certainly stressful family situations that I just don't talk about at all on my blog, because shit would rain from the sky if I did.
thanks nanc! i did have a nice day!
