Quote of the day

"My main workout every week during the season is a 180km (112-mile) ride. During the ride there is no talking, just hard riding." -- Normann Stadler, 2004 Hawaii Ironman champion

Hmm. I'm planning something like 6 century rides between July 1st and October 15th. I'm hoping that will be enough, but the more miles on the bike that I can manage this summer, the better!

A century ride every WEEK? Isn't that like running a marathon every week?

Heck, I guess that's why he can write CHAMPION after his name.

Actually, they say that it's MUCH less wear and tear than running - but I wouldn't know personally yet, my longest ride ever is 56 miles!!!

Good question, aaron! I don't know if there's an answer to it. I think everyone would give you a different answer. Right now for an event in November I'm putting in about 11 hours per week. I probably won't go much above 15 hours per week, except perhaps the weeks that I do a century. Lots of people go longer than that, but I just don't have that much "free" time.
