New bike saddle

I mentioned a few days ago that I ordered a new bike saddle, a Selle Italia, in my eternal quest for a saddle that actually remains comfortable for more than thirty miles. Here it is:

Seen alongside my old saddle (below), it's quite similar, but I'm hoping that it will redistribute the forces in a slightly more comfortable way with denser gel over a slightly surface larger area. *fingers crossed*

Elisabeth loves my old helmet. Maybe I shouldn't buy a new one quite yet.

Catherine enjoyed some corn on the cob with gusto last night. It was some of that new pre-packaged pre-washed microwave-in-the-bag stuff. Quick and easy to fix, certainly, but it tasted weirdly too sugary to me. I'll try nuking regular corn-on-the-cob the next time instead.

Looks like a comfy saddle! I like saddles with cut outs! How we rode them without for so many years is beyond my comprehension!
Oh yeah...give the helmet to Catherine...then you can get the new yellow one!

YAY! You got my saddle! Actually you CAN see the difference - the Selle Italia is wider and more rounded + more padded than your previous. The key is that it is wider, accomodating the hip bones. The first time I sat on it as I rode out of the shop I could actually FEEL my bones settle right on the seat (between my own natural padding of course...)

I hope so! I haven't been able to ride in it yet. The main problem is up front when I'm in aero position, things get all bruised. I REALLY REALLY hope this helps!!

I'm currently experiencing some serious saddle envy...or at least my rump is. I'm in the market for a new one since wearing two pairs of bike shorts isn't quite as sexy as I thought it would be. ;)

N - have you been fitted for a saddle size yet? I was shocked to find out how easy it was - they did it at my local, it took less than a minute. I also found out that saddles do come in various widths (narrow, average, and mom). not to mention there is such a thing as a women's specific saddles...

...And, and...

did you know they wear out? Yes - I've been told saddles should be replaced like every 5000 to 10,000 miles - which for some people is quite frequent.

I can't find the resource for this - I know it came from one of the tri magazines.
