ARRRGH! My computer is dead!

Last night my computer took a direct hit by lightning!! Usually we don't have lightning storms around here, but they made an exception just to kill my computer! And DVD player! It must have come through the cable connection because all the electrical connections were well surge-guarded. They tell me it's fairly rare to have a power surge like that through a data line. Well, apparently it's not rare enough!!

So it's possible that I may have lost all my email addresses, too! AARGH!! So if you're one of my email correspondents, send me an email and I'll save it and re-record the email addresses again when I'm up and running again.

Which I hope will be SOON because I'm suffering severe Internet withdrawal!

Needless to say, it's going to be a long wait for that Eagleman race report. *sob*

Wow, that sucks. When I got back from vacation and we were without electricity for nearly 24 hours due to a lightning strike, I was soooo glad we'd unplugged computers, router, etc, etc before we left.

Had we been home with stuff plugged in as usual, we might've been in the same boat as you are now! Good luck!

That sucks big time.

Very few surge protectors can withstand a direct lightning strike. And then there are the cable or phone line issues.

Hope you can get things fixed sooner than later.

Sorry to hear about your computer - such a pain. But huge CONGRATS on your Eagleman accomplishment and PR!!! Wish I had a chance to catch up with you during the race.

So happy no jellyfish were swimming with us!

That's awful. It also reminds me that I have been meaning to do a PSA on backing up one's computer. Very few do it yet everyone should.

Oh dear... Get a iPOD nano.. They make very good backup devices. :)

Oh... did I say that my home PC died too? Mysterious causes... Probably something to do with frequent thunder storms in this part of the world. :-(

good luck getting all of your stuff back.

Whenever I hear any kind of thunder or rumble I immediately unplug the computer. It's unlikely but not that rare to have it struck. Oh, does that mean a new one for you???

I mentioned your lightning strike to a friend and he's had 2 computers fried through data lines. Sucks.
