The new kayaks

They're here!! They arrived quite well-padded, but they weren't in as good of shape as I had hoped after transit.

They're significantly different colors - one has red ends and the other has yellow ends:

And unfortunately one has a few dents along the side which I believe will extend beneath the water line:

And the other has the tip of the stern dimpled in. It's not large, but it's definitely unsightly:

I think I'll have to contact the company about it and see what we can do about these defects.

Update: Unfortunately upon closer inspection, one kayak's hull damage extends all the way through to the inside (see below) at the waterline. This one will have to be returned.

And I just realized the stern "dimple" is part of the supposed-to-be-watertight compartment. Probably that will be a potential source for leaks, too. They both will have to go back.

I think they must have been left out in the sun somewhere in transit, heated up, and got damaged while hot and the plastic was softened. There were warning labels to that effect on the packaging that apparently went unheeded.

They look like dead bodies in the wrapping. They kind of are.

What a shame the company you bought them from couldn't do a decent job packing them. I hope you get replacements.

Well that sucks. I hope you get it all worked out.

We get excited if something is actually done right the first time...that just sucks for you guys, 'cause it will require phonecalls, and re-packing, etc. Can't wait to finally see them in the water someday soon!

They definitely look like they have seen better days.

Perhaps I missed it, but did you decide on names?

We'll probably still name them after the girls, as their personal Nile barges - Kaiserin Elisabeth and Tsaritsa Ekaterina, perhaps. Or just the English versions.

Ahh, gotta get them wrapped up today, another thing on the to-do list...

Ergh. That's painful - seeing those dings in those nice boats. I hope the replacements arrive soon!
