I bought all the new gear online for it and it should be arriving within a few days:
Neoprene socks (I'm quite sure they're going to be sexier even than Geekgirl's toesocks)
Neoprene swimming hood
Neoprene webbed gloves
I'm going to be channeling the Creature from the Black Lagoon.
Sexy or not, it's still going to take me a major act of will to step into water that will probably be in the upper 40s or lower 50s. Swimming with my face in the water may be out of the question.
I'll let you know how it goes. . . .

Hey!
What kind of wetsuit do you have?
I have a 2-piece Desoto Black Pearl - there might be some old nasty photos way back in the blog somewhere....
Stop scaring me! In June I am swimming Sharkfest which is in the SF Bay from Alcatraz to the beach. That water is 50 on a warm day. brrrrrr.....
You're brave!! I think jumping off that boat must be liking sticking a frozen knife into your eyesockets... but I wouldn't know, exactly, never having tried either one.
Nevar! You will nevar best my toe socks! Seriously, though, check and make sure they're allowed. I was in an event last year where no footwear of any kind was allowed on the swim.
I used to have nightmares about that monster in the water...thanks!! Those booties will be great and will keep your feet warm I bet!!
I have a friend who just did a swim in a 52-ish lake. Her body was fine - no booties. But the naked head? That was a killer.
You may not need the booties at all so long as your head is covered. that's been my experience with scuba diving as well.
agreed. cover your head. I used to swim in the PNW, the water up there is cold all year round. I used two swim caps, but you can also get neoprene swim cap thingies too.
Your feet just go numb and that is only a problem if you have to run a ways after exiting the water. At least you can't feel the sand/stones you are running across!
And I agree....double cap or buy a hood. And wear earplugs. You will feel warmer!
SF bay has been around 58-60 the last few times I swam it...don't listen to 21st! :-)
(But the colder the water, the better the story!)
I'm shivering having just read this. You are brave!
I have used those, good choice over the booties.
Neoprene socks are the BEST!! And super sexy!
