Chase Bank sucks

A rant here. Those of you looking for triathlon stuff, you can move along now.

Last week I had an incident with my Chase Bank Visa credit card which was truly aggravating.

I'm in the line at our local grocery (that I've shopped at with this credit card probably an average of once per week for three years) and the checker tells me the bank refused the card.

WTF!? I knew it was paid up. Huh? The card is not due to expire until November!??

This prompted an annoying flailing about. I used my debit card to pay the $212 for the groceries, but that took money out of my checking account and I knew there were some big checks outstanding on that account so I had to run and get some cash and go to the bank and deposit it quickly.

It turns out (which took 2 phone calls to figure out) that Chase Bank was going to mail out a replacement that day. A replacement that hadn't even gotten in the mail yet. And since I was making a charge in a different state than the credit card was registered in (like I do all the time and have for years) the computer triggered a shut-down on the card.

So the moral of the story is don't use your credit card within 2 months of an expiration date or you're likely to be embarrassed at check-out.

Bah. Of course it's useless to complain to them, too. So I'm left to rant here.

Thanks for that heads up. I have several cards from Chase. They seem to buy up cards on a regular basis.

Can we declare this Banks Suck Week? I had a similar grocery incident, in which when I went to pay for the provisions I had "insufficient funds" in my chequing account. One tentacle of the bank may be unaware of what the other tentacle is doing. So now it's fun with Forensic Accounting!

Been there done that. I like how when you open a new checking account they put all your deposits on hold for 10 days. Then you write a check and despite the fact that the money is in there it bounces and you feel like a low life...

Bummer....I use cash.
But that shouldn't happen regardless....are you canceling?

And if you use a particular card for a recurring automatic payment, when it expires and you forget to register a new card, the payment "bounces" and then you get charged for that too.

I thought I was the only one, but now I see that I just another of the many that have been screwed by Chase. I was with Bank One before they were bought out and they treated their clients like members of a big family. Now comes Chase and I have been screwed, robbed, lied to, deceived, and cheated. I had direct deposit and they would hold it so they could bounce my checks. They would even hold a bank transfer from my savings into my checking. When you call to complain, they would give you different answers just to make matters more confusing. I think they need to change their name from JP Morgan Chase to Rip off Chase.

Yes, they are the worst. I cancelled their card long ago. They were ALWAYS denying my transactions, even though I paid my bills EVERY month completely off. I have a flawless credit history, yet they were always finding excuses to deny transactions. It was embarrassing because it happened in public all the time. They would apologize, but after a while I'd get mad and they'd just hang up on me. They treated my aunt badly, too -- same thing plus refused to up her limit. Funny thing is, my aunt's credit is perfect and she's rich. She closed her card, too. Stupid bank -- how do these dumbasses stay in business?

I have had a low interest balance transfer with Chase for a couple years. This month I noticed a mystery $10 service charge. I called them and they are going to start charging $10 on top of the interest every month. I am so furious I can't see straight. I will be paying this card off and will never use Chase again. Why can these banks get government bailout money and then turn around and screw over the consumer???????
