New Annapolis Triathlon next year!

I'm SO in! I just heard about this, and it sounds great to me! Another Olympic in a great venue - right in my backyard! They don't mention the sea nettles that will be our swim buddies, though. And I sure hope they don't route the bike course over the cobblestones in the old part of town!

"The inaugural running of the Annapolis Capital Triathlon will take place on September 9, 2007. Presented by the Annapolis Triathlon Club with race management by the Columbia Triathlon Association, this Olympic distance race will introduce participants to the charms and history of the Capital City of Maryland, also known as the "Sailing Capital of the World". Home to the United States Naval Academy, framed by two great tidal rivers (The Severn River and South River) and situated along the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay, Annapolis is an ideal spot for a triathlon."

"Swimmers will negotiate the picturesque waters of the Severn River, as they navigate the 1.5K swim. The 40K bike route will take participants through historic Annapolis, past the oldest, functioning state capital building in the country and through the neighborhoods and rolling farm lands of Anne Arundel County. The 10K run course incorporates stretches of the nationally renowned Annapolis Ten Miler course that is both challenging and beautiful. Participants will run through city streets lined with cobble stone sidewalks and historic homes, and beneath the Naval Academy Chapel dome, before finishing in the heart of town."

Well, since I missed my "birthday" triathlon this year because of the accident, I may just have to consider doing that one if I can't find one closer--otherwise I will have to wait another 6 years! I certainly hope I will be ready for something like that distance by then.

Woot, that would be great! Depending on the course they pick, they could have some wicked hills in there, but I'm hoping not!

Can you tell me about sea nettles? Are they like stinging nettles? Sounds great - you live in a really beautiful part of the country.

Yeah, sea nettles are jellyfish with long tentacles that sting. A long-sleeved wetsuit is definitely recommended if it's not too hot! Plus there is anti-sting lotion available (I'll buy plenty if you want some) that really worked for me at Chesapeakeman last year.

I have been dying to make a trip back east for the past few years. I have friends in S. Carolina. I could visit them, do this tri, see family in NJ, hmmmm.....

Looks like a cool event!

Also about your last post...I've also retreated to my favorite evil food micromanagement software.

sometimes the more things change, the more they stay the same.

Oh no! I would love to do that race, but I'm in Wisconsin that weekend. Bummer! And so close, too. I've always heard good things about Columbia Tri and the races they run. Maybe next time?

This event will be a great one ... we have secured the best race director in the business, have an awesome venue ... and will be bringing some new opportunities fro "newbies" to enjoy and "compete" for prizes as well ... please let everyone know and help us to make it a memorable event, as well as one which over time will be thought of in the same vain as Columbia, Wildflower and St. Anthony's

Stay tuned on the Columbia triathlon web site for more info on this race as well as registration and links to future info.
