For those scorching runs

I want one of these for those sunny long-distance runs! But I can't wear it in public yet because of that pesky Ironman logo. I haven't yet earned the right! Just like I haven't yet earned the right to call myself Iron-Anything. It's just plain bad ju-ju, there's no two ways around it. It gives me the shivers when I see unqualified people doing that, like falsely calling yourself a Navy Seal on your resume or claiming a fake PhD (mine is genuine, honest!) or something worse.

But if I cross that magical finish line in Panama City Beach in November, there will be no living with me. I'll be wearing Ironman pajamas and underpants and contact lenses and earrings and deodorant and getting an Ironman license plate holder and a 140.6 sticker for my minivan and. . . .

You have really come a long way, and I can tell how much becoming an Iron Man means to you so I think it will be totally great for you to wear Iron Man "everything." And I am rooting for you!

I know exactly what you mean! My husband bought me an Ironhat for my birthday, a very sweet thought. I told him I thought it was very nice, but he keeps wondering why I won't wear it...

lol and wear it proudly my dear. Its like me and my 26.2 hat. I wear it all the time even though hubby wants to toss cause it smells like sweat.

"Iron" is a somewhat enigmatic label. I see it as more than just a destination. Ironman is a title. Ironman is a race. But I believe you have already shown the iron in you.

As a mom (of twins, no less), you find a way to train for triathlons, including an IM distance race. You have already completed the half IM distance races. And you have been a solid rock dealing with the challenges life throws your way.

The iron that allows you to complete an Ironman race must be forged long before race day. If you go onto the course without that iron, you will never attain the title of Ironman.

I do, however, agree with the wearing of Ironman logo items. It's sort of like wearing a race shirt for a race you didn't complete.

Nancy, there is no "if". You will cross that finish line and we will all be here cheering you on every step of the way! Then you'll have to post a pic of those Ironman pj's.
