I just sent in cancellations for two triathlons that I've done for the past several years: Columbia (Olympic distance) and Eagleman Aqua Velo (half iron distance).
They fall right in the midst of our house renovation schedule and I won't be able to be well-prepared for them. I don't want to go and just slog around the course slower than I have previously - I'd rather wait until next year when I can be well-prepared and return to them with focus rather than as an afterthought.
On the other hand, cutting out a tentative spring break trip will allow me to run a new local half marathon in Cambridge, most likely.
One door shuts, another opens.

I'm sorry your probably a little bummed, but no worries you can always do it next year!
You are a smart woman keep the racing to a minimum during major home renovations. When we first moved in 2 wks ago I declared no projects until after IMCDA, that didn't last long. I didn't think that the wallpaper counted, though!
Good luck at B2B. You will have an amazing day there. I am a bit sad that I moved away and can't just drive 2 hrs to it anymore.
doors LITERALLY will open with the new renovation!
Congrats on making the choice now. I have been battling whether or not to drop Columbia as my first Oly beacsue of huge work commitments and everyone keeps telling me to stick it out.
So smart of you to look ahead and make that choice now. I'm trying to figure out that kind of balance! Good luck with the upcoming renovations - can't wait to see more!
Wise choices, I believe. And as you said, it opens a door for a different event, and increases the likelihood that you'll excel in that one!
BTW, my word-verification for this post is "mensas" -- 'cause Nancy's one of the smart ones!!
Sounds good. Exercise enough for health through the schedule crunch and then rock'em next season!
